First check the teeth on the clutch dogs to see if they are "square' versus worn at an angle relative to the drive shaft. The clutch dogs do wear. Do all the drive chains flex going around the idlers and sprockets? Worn bearings create more drag on the drive system. Usually worn bearings make the chains jump and pull the tensioners loose. My money is on the clutch dogs. Those drive shafts are a stinker to drive out to get to the clutches. A change that was made for the better on the 7200 and 1750.
