I dislike this argument. There are weapons who's ONLY purpose is to kill people. They are designed to put lead in the air. The AK-47 is a perfect example. The Uzi is another. Any shotgun with a short barrel and an external magazine is another. No one in their RIGHT mind would take these weapons to the woods to hunt.
There are also weapons designed to hunt with. They can kill people, of course, but they're a tool used to hunt. You would not pick a Ruger 10/22 go take with you into combat, nor a Remington 870 express, nor any weapon that has an internal magazine. Any of these weapons can be used for short term personal defense in the home, but they simply would never be used long term in a combat zone.
So no - not all weapons are assault rifles, just as not all knives are bayonets.
