: Has anyone ever added a set of front wheels to a brush hog so it rolls over the ground sort of like a finish mower? I have a small 4' Sunbeam brush hog that I keep some rough areas mowed. The ground is uneven and too rough for mowing with a garden tractor and occasionally small rocks or low stumps are hit. I like the toughness of the "break away" blades on the brush hog but if I set it low enough to cut short, I always gouge the ground and have to constantly adjust the height of the mower. I have tried to "angle" the mower so it rides higher in the front and runs on the rear wheel but going over a high spot causes the mower to lift and I end up missing the cut. I would like to let the mower run with the ground using the rear wheel and maybe two front wheels sort of like a mowing deck on a lawn mower. Any experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I never have, but have seen finish mowers with the setup that you want. The mowers i've seen have a wheel at each corner. I assume your bush hog has the one center wheel at the back? Mine has two plates that form the frame and have the lower link pins attached. Can you add another plate with some square tubing welded to it? My wheels spin in pipe that is welded to plates and bolted (for adjustment) on. You would then have the 3 wheels. I think that mostly you need to figure a way to attach to whatever kind of frame you have. IF you have a welder, your home free, if not you may have to work harder for a bolt together, or find a local person to help you out. Welders love "different" projects, so just talk to them, they have made tons of stuff and may have made something similiar.
Good luck! Rob
