: : : : My uncle has a Farmall 400 Diesel which somehow : : : leaks fuel into the oil. Does anyone have any suggestions? : : Unfortunately, a solid as the 400 gases were, the 400 diesels tended to get cracks in the block. This is the probable cause. : this guy is showing how much he knows about a diesel pump. there is a small seal between the primary pump and the disel pump that can fail and cause a leak. also. there is a chance that the leak is coming from the plunger. your best bet is to have the pump rebuilt. there is no way can a crack in the block leak diesel fuel into the crankcase. the 400 diesel were a very good tractor. _________ The 400 diesel was a very good tractor and had few problems with cracks in the block. This couldn't be the problem, because the block didn't touch the fuel until the injectors did their part. The fuel leak is more than likely two cupped shaped rubber seals on the shaft which drives the injection pump. These seals often cut grooves into the injection pump main shaft bushing and thereby, the pump will need some repair. Check to make sure that the fuel return line is not plugged up, by blowing some air through it. You can drain the engine oil and put a couple of lbs. of air pressure into the fuel tank, and with the leaking shaft seals, you may be able to see diesel draining out the pan drain in a few moments. There are variations of the seal setup for the pump drive. Sometimes a leak will be stopped by a little air pressure, and in these times, you probably got the diesel in the eng. oil while the tractor wasn't running. You need to tell the type of injection pump which your tractor has, for a more accurate analysis of the problem. I believe the 400 Farmall had only a 282 diesel engine, but I'm not sure of the complete varities it may have had in it's fuel system. I think the Roosa-master pump is the main one used on it, and it has the two rubber cupped shaped seals on the majority of it's drives. Milan
