: YES I'M GREEN TO THIS TRACTOR STUFF ... I HAVE TWO ACRES I'LL BE WORKING, MOWING, TILLING, MOVING SOIL-COMPOST ETC. I'M WONDERING IF A 8-N OR SIMILAR TRACTOR WITH A LOADER & IMPLIMENTS WILL WORK FOR ME (I DON'T WANT TO BE WORKING ON THE TRACTOR AS MUCH AS I'M IN THE FIELD) OR SHOULD I LOOK FOR A NEWER 4WD TRACTOR? ANY OPINIONS? I agree with Dale, the oldies are goodies, but they do have limitations. If you are looking to put a loader on you tractor stay away from the N series. Not that they are a bad tractor, but with no power steering and the way the front ends are set up, they don't handle a loader worth a darn (at least I can't steer mine with a load in the bucket). As far as plows, my 8N has a real tough time with a 2 bottom plow. Maybe it's just me, but I have to disagree on that one, I would look elswhere to pull a 2 bottom also. As far a a mower, I think an N would do just fine, and a tiller it would probably handle also, but keep in mine again W/O the power steering, manuvering in tight agreas is not a lot of fun. If you can afford it, I would recommend you get a nice newer utility tractor to handle your chores. If you want a tast of the past, buy an 8N or a B to pull the wagon for fun. You will have a little more maintanance on the new one, but you will have an easier job getting things done.
