: : : : You are reading through the tractor talk or the tractor cafe, and you come across a subject / tractor that you could be interested in, and you click on only to find someone wants to know the value on his or her item. Do you feel like we should appraise these items or throw the mouse across the room. I dont mind helping people with there machines but this appraisal service to me is a bunch of #$@%^
: : : I agree with you to a point. I too have posted a question regarding the value of a tractor as a favor to my father-in-law who has long since retired from farming. BUT I would just as soon know how to appraise his or my or any tractor myself. If I can't do it then I would like to know who to ask that does know how to do it. My guess is one view of any tractor is it's ability to provide a service,ie farm value, and another is it's collector value. I've written to people I thought would be able to help me find an appraisal service that knows how to rate a tractor both ways. I've asked if there is a way or place to learn how to do the appraising. I've got no responses, so I can understand a person posting a question as to value of tractors.

: : I think the point is this. Those of us who have been collecting or have ben interested in old tractors for some years usually subscribe to various magazines and periodicals. In this manner we see ads for various tractors and have some ideas of what the current asking prices are. There are, however, many ppeople just becoming interested or perhaps just having an old machine around. They are not aware of the periodicals, or do not want to get that involved so simply ask here. This should be an area for honest talk I think. If it bugs you when someone asks, just don't read it or answer it! I think questions, including asking about value, are ask in honesty and deserve the same consideration in an answer. Some people just do not realize how difficult it is to determine value without seeing the item. However there are ball park figures for different general conditions and I think this is all that is ask for.

: Wish this site had been around in 1990 when I bought grandpa's farm. I went through several tractors trying to get the right mix for my needs. Paid way to much and sold for too little on the first 3. This site is a great help in getting a market idea, getting parts, and selling when your interests change.

I Also agree with Dave, I too din't know much of tractor values and payed too much for my tractor, but it's said and done , and I have to live with it! I didn't know about this site back then, only after I got the tractor home and needed some advise on repairs did I find this very usefull form! And besides it is good to know how much a certain brand of tractor is worth in Northen Canada, and down in Hopland Mich. Randy (rms)
