The bandwidth on AM is pretty narrow and the "highs" are cut on AM. AM music just doesn't sound too good, as compared to FM. Now as we got older, we lose the ability to hear the "highs" anyway, so maybe that's why a lot of music on AM is generally geared to what the older people listen to. The advantage of AM radio waves is that it has the ability to follow the curve of the earth, where FM does not. That is why AM waves can travel further.
