I worked for a place that made and delivered hamburger for one of the big burger chains when I was about 24 yrs. old. We ground and packed the beef three days a week and delivered two then the next week it was grind and pack two days and deliver three. The plant was in Columbus and I had the Cincinnati route on one of the three delivery day weeks. The Cinci run was a twelve hour day on a good day, longer if it was bad weather and lots of traffic in town. It was one of those bad days and I'd been out about 14 hours in bad weather and was bone tired from driving and lifting and hauling crates of meat. For some reason when we loaded the truck we miscounted and over loaded it and had extra crates of meat. Usual procedure when the plant was closed was to back up to the dock and plug in the reefer unit and go home, then unload it the next day. I got back to the plant and backed up to the dock and who should appear but the nasty a$$hole manager... drunk, staggering around and slurring his words. He wanted the truck unloaded right then. Needless to say I was none too happy, being tired and hungry and having a pretty young wife waiting at home for attention. I vowed that would the last time he'd do that or any of his usual crud to me and went back to construction work as soon as I could.
