I have had both Ford and Dodge . My first truck when i was young was a new Ford F250 2 wheel drive learned to hate that truck in short order . Only had it a little over a year and it was gone. Next one was a brand new 73 F250 4X4 ,a gutless dog from the factory and plum sucked gas with the 360 that lasted about two months and the 360 came out and a 428 S CJ went in in my truck and my buddys truck just like mine ecept his was a 4 gear and no power steering got a barn yard 390 4V in his Now there were two good trucks that even got good gas mileage , mine gained five mpg while my buddys gained 6 . Next one was a new 78 Ford F250 4X4 that one was a SUN KISSED LEMON as the first night of ownership it never made it home as that truck saw many rides on the back of a hook . Next one was a 79 F250 4x4 that one was one heck of a truck as it was like a TIMEX as it took a licking and kept on ticking till it got totaled . The next one was a 88 F350 4X4 cab and chassi , i bought it well used and abused with 62000 on the clock and and ex oilfield truck , got it cheap that left room to fix and fix i did and it even was on a massive recall from ford and they fixed repainted and fixed and fixed and i fixed some more but once FIXED it was a great truck rode nice pulled super and even with the 460 it got great fuel mileage (why i have no idea but it did ) , put 287000 on that truck . Then came the Dodge with the Cummins . A 95 cab and chassi bought used with 64000 and yes it needed fixen . Do i like it yes it rides nice i set well in it it is comfortable to drive , does it have it's faults (yes) is it perfect(NO) Could Dodge make improvements (YES) Do i have to work on it (YES) is it easy to work on (NO) Changes i would make IF i were the Dodge engineering team (1) LOCK OUT HUBS, (2) better brakes , (3) better ease to work on the whole truck, As for my 95 a better heater and better ease to replace heater core and A/C evaporator (4) better or heavier wiring ,(5) a transmission made for a truck with a lower reverse and with the diesel engine a transmission with a closer gear ratio and a rear end ratio to match for towing and highway speeds . As in this dept. mine sucks. And the big major change is in the clutch dept. Throw away the hyd. clutch and go back to linkage with a REAL clutch that you do not have to shove to the floor each time .

Today's Featured Article - Harvestin Hay: The Early Years (Part 2) - by Pat Browning. The summer of 1950 was the start of a new era in farming for our family. I was thirteen, and Kathy (my oldest sister) was seven. At this age, I believed tractor farming was the only way, hot stuff -- and given a chance I probably would have used the tractor, Dad's first, a 1936 Model "A" John Deere, to go bring in the cows! And I think Dad was ready for some automation too. And so it was that we acquired a good, used J. I. Case, wire tie hay baler. In addition to a person to drive th ... [Read Article]
