The problem is that your saying that 22 marked up to $40 is maybe a bit high but not terrible, and I agree. They have to keep the store open and make money. My problem is that this is a WORST case scenario. On a normal day that store would buy it at $18 and sell it at $40. It's the cheapest store in the area. Like I said, other stores wanted as much as $56. In a worst case scenario, they'd be paying 22.xx, likely less. Carquest/Napa is an international company, yet parts in Canada are normally much more than in the US. This is not due to import fees. Canada should actually have lower costs provided Car Quest Canada is actually considered a Canadian company, which would pay 16.5% coporate tax vs 35% in America. Rockauto(RA) can sell parts for 1/4 of what I can get them for here in Canada. There is NO WAY that CQ or Napa is paying anymore for that part than RA. Granted, Napa/CQ has more costs, but from what I can tell, RA is not drop shipping this stuff as some do. They have it in stock, other wise it couldn't be shipped directly to my house 2500 miles away in 18 hours with Rockauto tape and magnets. Somebody somewhere is making huge money and I split the profits between CQ/Napa coporate and their stores(which are often owned by coporate). Again I understand that a profit must be made, but there really is no excuse for how much autoparts cost in Canada other than greed and a lack of competition.
