: : : i have a 10hp hydrostatic drive tractor i blew a hydraulic line and i was wondering if anyone would know what kind of transmission fluid to use it smells and looks like automatic transmission fluid but i dont know what kind could any one help me thank you" : Typically, U.F. hydraulic fluid is used in systems where the transmission and hyrdraulics are unified. R.O.F. hydraulic fluid is used commonly in separated hydraulic systems. I without knowing what brand of hydro-system the machine has i.e. "Eaton" I cannot tell you what type you need. Try calling a local lawn mower shop. They could probably help. Cub Cadets use Dextron II or III or Mercon Transmission fluid (Hytran form IH) , the same stuff used in your car's automatic transmission. I believe IH used Perless hydro units in the Cub Cadet but have heard of some Eaton's being used also. In any event I don't thisn you will have a problen with the above in a Hydrostatic Transmission with the above. IH used the same fluid in their 826, 966, HYdro 100 & 70 Hydrostatic tractors that approached 100 HP to the drawbar plus feed their hydrolic systems. Be careful however because if it is gear drive (has a clutch) you should be using 80-90 weight gear oil.
