We had a similar incident here in Wisconsin where a High School student took a classroom hostage. It was particular dicey because our D.A.'s wife was a teacher at that school. Ended up being a suicide by cop situation.

Undoubtedly this is a tragedy, but to put it in perspective it's still smaller than the Bath School Disaster that occurred 85 years ago. Bath remains the largest mass murder in a US school. Violence in schools is not anything particularly new. Heck I'm in my 50's and the Jr High I went to had an incident of a student with a gun and a grudge against the gym teacher before I started Jr High. We hear more about it because some people that want to limit our lawful use of guns will use a situation like this to create an emotional appeal to limit the public's access to guns. There will be cries to pass more gun control legislation, no one wants to explain how this happened in a school, because guns are illegal in schools, didn't seem to stop this joker. We never hear about Bath, Andy Kehoe killed 44 people that day with out firing a shot. His motive-He felt the excessive taxes caused by school consolidation were to blame for his economic troubles while farming in the 1920's.

Something else I want you to consider, when I lived in Florida one of the truck drivers working for us was beaten and robbed at gun point, while on school property. After it was investigated it appeared the miscreants followed the truck for several stops. Didn't rob him when he was at Publix, didn't rob him when he was at KFC but as soon as he pulls on school grounds he gets jumped. Wonder why? BECAUSE THE ROBBERS KNEW HE WAS UNARMED AS SOON AS HE DROVE THE TRUCK ONTO SCHOOL GROUNDS.
