: : : : : I previously posted a message here : : : : reguarding the poor cutting : : : : performance of my Cub Cadet tractor : : : : with a 44A mower deck and would like : : : : to update my findings. I have yet to : : : : find high performance blades for this : : : : machine but I did find a smaller : : : : center pulley for the deck that : : : : increases the blade speed. My deck did : : : : have a 5 inch pulley and I found a : : : : 4&1/4 inch pulley part # IH-126393-C2. : : : : A smaller belt is required I found : : : : part # IH-59971-C1 works perfectly. I : : : : will be testing this deck under : : : : different conditions and with : : : : different blade combinations as they : : : : are found and post my results here. If : : : : anyone knows of a source for high : : : : performance 15 1/8 inch blades with : : : : 3/4 inch hole let me know. I'vebeen looking for two years. : : : o.k. what makes a blade HIGH PERFORMANCE ??? : : : : *** dual carburetors *** : : : : Actually most of the poor cutting decks I encountered back when I had a small engine shop suffered from a deck leading edge that was too close to the ground and back too close to the front edge of the blades. Any taller grass was pushed nearly horizontal before the blades touched it. I improved the cut of an old Gravely I use on rough ground 100% by removing the front skirt. The new ones still extend down low but slant down to the front so the grass can stand up before the blades hit it. : Good call farmer, : Have seen the same thing, in my b/in/laws case it was caused by the deck being folded back and under from hitting stumps and such. Prying the deck back to orginal config. fixed the problem. Bonehead I'm thinking that the deck was designed low in he front so a vacuum would be maintained under the deck and this would pull the grass up allowing the blades to cut it. Actually I've been cutting the grass for 30 years with many different machines and these Cubs are the only ones I recall that do such a poor job. I also have an Original Cub Cadet with a 38" deck that does a great job. The newer Cubs are much more user friendly and the 44" deck sure cuts down on mowing time. I think if I can find the right combination it will work out. The local Cub Cadet dealer is little help, he wants to sell me a new machine. I found the smaller pulley on my own and it helped quite a bit. Some newer machines have a large airfoil on the blade to better vacuum and eject the cut grass, this is considered a high performance blade. Thanks for your help guys: Mike
