Thank goodness we don"t get all the weather they promise (threaten). Local brodcast media made it sound like we were going to get agood share ofwhat they got out east. We did get cold rain, wind - my meter showed gust to 39mph. Weather bureau in Grand rapids will be dropping thewind warnings as of 4pm, just a few minutes from now.
I had taken all the precautions - watered up the animals, spare cannister of water for us. Disconnected the electric garage door opener in ploebarn so we could get in (only door). Stocked up gas for generators, and made sure generators were accessable. Repositioned things in the barns to get as many tractors (all) and impliments under cover as I could. Made sure all tractor batteries were fully charged. (A borrowed battery, and a sealed beam headlight provides a bunch of light for several hours. Just shine it at the ceiling.) Anyway, weather guessers were suggesting winds in excess of 50mph, and that usually leads to catastrophic failures in the power grid around here. Lights went out for about a second, this morning.
Not that I"m complaining. The folks out east are going to be digging out of this one for quite a while. My heart goes out to them. Guess I got an early wakeup call for the winter. Stayed in and loaded up a bunch of ammunition for son"s deer rifle for upcoming season.
