My Game Warden told me coons can carry rabies and distimper. No law against shooting them. First time I'd used a 12 gauge in years. I got three and injured another (think he died) and my brother also got three. We find they come out just at dusk and go directly to trash cans, dog food container and bird feeders. I sit in the house with lights off and shotgun in hand. We put their food sources in metal cans with lids and removed the bird feeders. Seem to be rid of coons at least for the time being.
