I won't call you a pansy in-too-deep. I instantly turn my head when I see ANYTHING to do with upgrades on a pickup truck. Especially when I see a diesel with a mention of a chip or aftermarket intake in the ad. Even aftermarket rims will make the value go down in my mind.
I would rather spend a lot more for a retired fleet truck. Last winter I bought a 2000 F-250 (gas) for $5000. It only had 60K miles and was from a local contractor company who was the first owner. If you look past rust and dents, you can get a good deal if you're willing to look long enough.
I still get a kick out of how the fleet mechanic wrote milage down on the inside of the door with a sharpie marker for every oil change. I've been keeping up with his tradition. It reminds me of on old grain drill I had where the farmer had written a log down of bushels/acres planted on the inside of the hopper cover with a penciel every year since the 1940-something.
