Awesome day Saturday!!! We made a junkyard run to buy a valve cover for our old Regular - we had seen it there last fall but did not buy it at the time since we already had one good one. But my husband decided to go back and buy it because it has a nice decal remnant for "Rusty" (our old Regular that we will never repaint).
Husband took some tools as he planned to get wheel bearings and seals... but did NOT bring his 3/4" drive socket set since he was not planning to get anything real big. But when he moved the tall grass to get at the front hub, he said "Well look at this would ya? This old girl has an original Farmall factory mudscraper! I'm taking this baby home today, if I have to drag the tractor behind the van." We could not believe it, but yep - we found one of those babies. It does not have the "hoods" on it - you can see where the hood rivets sheared off (but maybe we will run across a set someday). This mud scraper is not really "purdy" compared to other designs - but she's original and that is pretty cool to us.
The funniest thing is that we had traveled to this junkyard 3 times last fall - but never noticed the mud scraper.
We paid $50 bucks for everything: mud scraper, valve cover, front axel, and all the bearings, and felt seals for the front end. [He is planning to get the Regular running as his winter project this year.]
We had our 13 year old daughter along for this trip - so she and I just explored the playground...I mean junkyard, and talked. I took a lot more junkyard art photos. Then on the trip home we stopped for a burger at our favorite place. It was a really fun day!
