The reason you see such a wide price range is the options make the world of a difference. You really need to post us a picture to really get an accurate price. Like the others have stated the after market electric start takes it out of the collector class. Then if the wide front end is a JD or an aftermarket that makes a difference too. Does it have the factory three point still on it? That is several grand if it is. If it does have the factory three point then does it have the factory top link??? If not that is several hundred off.
So as you can see we need a little more information to work with. In general the whole market is down now unless the tractor is something special like an high crop or one of few made. The run of the mill common tractors are half the value they where 10-15 years ago. The styled letter series are not selling for much more than scrap. Sometimes that is restored.
A word of caution. If you are just wanting something to play around on then fine but remember that an diesel is going to be much higher to work on than a gas engine. These old JD diesels can run up a big repair bill real quick even with an overhaul. The fuel system is the big cost item. The piston, rings, bearing and such are not that high to replace. So you need to know what kind of an overhaul it had done. I have seen guys put new rings and gaskets in a motor on the old pistons and call that an overhaul.
