I was always kind of fussy about filters, yes I'd cross them to find a filter cheaper than OEM but always checked them out with a reverse cross like the other post mentioned AND/OR looked at the filter spec. When doing turfgrass equipment our local jobber was big into Fram filters and we crossed some of the Toro filters to Fram. The Hydraulic filter for the Greensmaster III was common to a filter used on a John Deere 4430, it worked well but I had to save/use the Toro O-Ring and cost $15 verses $60 from Toro. The Hydraulic drive filter for the Groundsmaster crossed to the same as an oil filter for a type IV Volkswagen, I did some more research it would spin on and work BUT the particle size removal was not as fine so I bought the Toro filter rather than risk trashing a hydrostatic transmission.
