Look at the coverage maps. Here in north east Iowa U.S. Cellular had much better coverage ten years ago. Now the others have mostly caught up. I had U.S. Cellular but I needed a nation wide plan and they did not have it 7 years ago. I switched to Verizon just to gain a national plan. Plus my Dad and brothers have Verizon an we can talk for free.
I have thought about switching back several times because Verizon is a high priced phone system. They charge for everything. A $59 plan will end up at $79 by the time they get all of the charges on it. I know that much of it is govt. taxes and such but when I had U.S. Cellular a $59 plan it was $59 on my bill.
Here AT&T and Sprint are junk. They have almost zero coverage out side of the major towns/cities. My sisters both have AT&T. Their phones will not even work in their own houses but my Verizon and my son's U.S. Cellular will both work in either house.
