I've always TRIED to have what would best be described as a "middle of the road" viewpoint. Try to see both sides, try to think in terms of what allows everyone to have their rights and freedoms, and try to believe MOST people have enough common sense to walk and chew gum at the same time.
In recent years, I'm finding out I HIGHLY over-rated MOST people.
People who are drawn to the "left" seem to live in a dream world. "Wouldn't it be nice if....." They're totally disjointed from reality.
People on the right seem to be stuck to old realities, and very much opposed to compromise.
So long as the two sides are so far from each other, ANYTHING that results from their thinking is going to be less to do with what works and more to do with just what falls out when you shake the bag.
There's GOT to be a middle ground. One based on common sense, RESPECT of others, and the realization that the way we're doing things now just isn't working.
And sadly, I don't see it as something that'll get better soon.
