I am a pilot and sometimes work for a local Fixed Base Operator that rents aircraft, provides flight training, charter services ect.I see some problems with your idea. No one is going to rent you a plane unless you have a pilots lic., a current medical, and a type rating in that aircraft. Then you will go for a checkout ride with one of the FBO's pilots. A non-pilot in VRF rules ? I think you are going to have some serious problems managing aircraft systems, navigation and generally maintaing control of the aircraft. As for your cell phone and text, not sure what good that is going to do you in a stall/spin. Who would you call ? Even if you did get someone on the phone and they told you how to get out of a spin would you have any idea what they are talking about ? Not sure where the 600 pounds but I fly single engine aircraft that carry a lot more than that. Also it will be intersting to see someone fly into a major airport without a flight plan. Not sure what you mean when you say you "have a pilot" that "is checked out to fly the planes ...I rent because he picks up the keys at my house". Perhaps other General Avaition pilots can add something I am missing. Anyway, for those that don't like the TSA, Ron Paul is the only one to support.
