What misrepresentation have you seen concerning lubes? It's a fact that there are good oils and greases, better oils and greases, and there are those that aren't so good. Too there are those that are good in one situation but not so good in others. Personally I have one particular brand that I use because I have seen the results of it's use. I couldn't care less about any PR because in my book you simply can't get any better advertisement for a product than results and happy customers. Example, customer is using a very common, very well liked brand of oil in his compressor engines and getting approx 9 months out of the turbo's. I got him to switch to the brand I like because I've seen the results another customer had with it. Turbo life increased to well over 2 years. Granted the new oil cost twice as much but it also saved him at least $3200 per year just in the cost of the turbo repair alone, and that's not counting the expense of time lost when a machine went down. Not to bad for an extra $50 or so investment to buy a better oil.

Heck taking things into the grease side of things I've got another customer that resisted buying the better grease due to the it being twice as expensive. Once they started buying and using the better stuff they were able to extend their greasing intervals by three. In other words the more expensive grease actually cost them less to purchase and use because they used less of it. Then add in the additional production time provided to them that the operator previously spent greasing, the extended life of the machine because the better grease wasn't breaking down as quickly as the old stuff was, etc, etc. Taken all into account a little more expense for better grease both saved them money and made them money with increased production.

So, beyond the 'fairly tails' that better greases and oils are a good thing, what exactly are you talking about.
