I just put a "new" steering column in my (1989) f-350 last week. It's amazing the things that it can fix:
1) My left front blinker started working again 2) My steering wheel isn't loose anymore. 3) A fencing pliers is no longer standard operating equipment for starting the truck.
Didn't fix the horn, but hey 3 out of 4 ain't bad.
I went to great lengths to put a non-tilt steering column out of an older truck into it so I won't ever have to deal with it again. The tilt steering is what makes everything go bad. The older column bolted in fine, I just had to smash out some plastic under the instrument panel to convince it. Sadly that's probably not even an option after 1997.
