Skype is not a scam- it really is free and it really does work- you can see the person you're talking to. There are, however, a few niggling issues:

1. Connection quality does depend on the connection at both ends so, if one of you has a bad connection, it may not work. As another stated, often a disconnect/reconnect will help, but not always. It also sometimes helps to turn off the video, but it still seems like the more important the call, the poorer the connection. Some days you just eventually give up.

2. Video only works in a two-way conversation. Conference calls are handy, but you lose the video.

3. Each of you can see the other one in real time, so you have to keep that in mind. No picking of the nose or making faces while talking! I'm reminded of a scene from the old Jetsons TV show where Mrs. Jetson received a call early in the morning before she was made up for the day. Hair in curlers, bags under the eyes, etc. She used some sort of mask to take the call!

Don't let those few caveats turn you away- give it a try- it's free so there's nothing to lose. I've been using it for about three years and I've never received any solicitations related to Skype.

My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
