Our local Post Office (5 miles away), shares the Postmaster with another small town, so it's only open a few hours a day. The next closest place to get stamps is 10 miles away. Doesn't sound like much, but darned inconvenient when you need stamps.
The Mrs will put the envelope in the box with a note attached and money for a roll of stamps. He'll post the envelope, leave the rest of the stamps and a receipt, and go on his merry way. The extra effort on his/your part makes our life alot easier, Thank you.
Just like an empty manure spreader never breaks a chain, you never run out of stamps when you don't need them.
