I'm a novice at posting in modern view so here goes. Pictures I took in Finland.
Went to a farm store called Agri Market and looked at the machinery on the lot. The 3 point blades have a much taller moldboard than anything I see around home. Probably for snow? I get the feeling Agri Market is a large European chain. The store manager did speak a little english and he gave me some catalogs listing their products. I can't read them but I can look at the pictures at least. Tried to have a conversation with some farmers sitting by the coffee pot, using my host as an interpreter but the conversation didn't last long.
This is the Finnish version of a pickup truck. People pull these neat looking trailers behind their cars. I saw very few pickups and the ones I saw were small. I saw no shabby looking trailers and they all looked like they were made by the same manufacturer. All opf the trailers I saw on the road were in good shape and all the lights worked. I have a feeling there's a yearly inspection for trailers like there is for the cars. Their trailer electrical plug is far superior to anything we have in the US, in my view at least.
Need a log loader? Finland is heavily forested with Birch and Pine that grows straight up like a lodge pole. The pulp industry is strong there. A big mechanical harvester comes in and fells, limbs and cuts the trees. The logs are piled on one place and the limbs are piled in another place. They even haul the limbs away and use them for something, Im not sure what.
This is the king of the road. A straight truck pulling an A train. There are conventional semi's like we have in the US too but the kingpin is a lot farther under the trailer on their trucks. Most of the big trailers have three axles with super singles. The truck usually had duals but not always.
Old combines don't excite most people but I get a kick out of them. Saw a fairly modern Deere self propelled combine without a cab. The design was totally different from a US model. I was too slow with the camera and didn't get a pic of it. He was turning into a field and was gone before I could even flinch.
The glacier left quite a few big rocks laying around. The forest floor is covered with a soft spongey green mossy growth that almost reminds me of tundra. Most of the rocks in the forest are big green mossy mounds.
Nearly every bale I saw was wrapped up tight. It looked like the hay fields were lined with marshmellows. They are just too cool and damp to get the hay dry so most of it is sileage bales. Sorry about the blur. We were zipping along at 120KPH when I took the shot.
If you like steeples this is the place to go. This pic was taken in Tallin, Estonia but Finland and Sweden have a bunch of them too. I took this pic when darkness was setting in. The shutter speed was real slow to take advantage of what little light there was left so I had to set the camera down on something to hold it still. I deleted a bunch of blurry ones. The lights make kind of a neat looking glow. The camera is a Canon SLR that automatically adjusts for light exposure and it made this novice look like a pro, well sometimes at least. The pics taken in the oncoming darkness looked clearer and brighter than what we saw with the naked eye.
Well that's all for now. For those of you who have seen Europe this is probably nothing new but for this first timer it was like a whole new world. Jim
