Actually many roads in NC are legal for 102" trailer widths, just look at all those wide semi trailers on your highways. All interstate and most federal highways are exempt from the 96" width. I travel with my 102" trailer often in NC as well as many racing teams as you know. I haven't seen an 8' race car hauler in years, even the ones towed by pickups. I know of several race teams in the mountains that are not legal on the roads they travel but do it anyway, never heard of one getting a ticket. When hauling my tractors on the 102" trailer I always carry a Motor Carriers Road Atlas where legal roads are highlighted and at least you can look up highly restricted routes such as bridges tunnels etc. but really not many places that are that restricted. Many states have a lane width rule, here in FL roads with lanes of less than 12' are restricted to 8' to get technical but doubt if the police know or care. Good points on the MH tires & lugs.
