By using the Bob Melville's 12-Volt Conversion Instructions (posted under Articles) I successfully completed the project using a Delco 10SI (1978 Buick) Alternator. I fabricated the bracket by flip-flopping the OEM Generator Bracket which set it forward about 1"; opened the bolt holes to 3/8". To set the Alternator in-line with the drive pulley you have to place the alternator in front of the OEM bracket. I used a 9" X 3/8" bolt; threaded all the way down to last 2" from end. By using the pulley that came with the alternator, the OEM generator belt nearly fit, however, it was a tad short. A NAPA 9345; 31/64" X 34-7/8" did the trick. I fabricated an ajusting arm using a 3/4" strap iron with a 2" forward offset and a slotted adjusting arm end from a junk car. The final belt tightening was only 1/4" or so...as everything fits up just right and you have very little room to play with...nothing touches the hood....all fits with adequate clearance. See photos... Thanks, Bob, for your detailed instructions!
