My father has a 1956 300 that does the same identical thing, It has good compression also, we have not been able to find the actual cause. If you put in new plugs it will run good for a while and then it does the same thing, we have worked with the igintion and carb but have not had any luck correcting it. Maybe someone has some more idea's.
