mag and 12 volt electrical

I got a different complete magneto coming for my H, besides timeing the mag before installing what should I do with the wire from the shut off switch that currently goes to the 12 volt coil. do I disconect it from the regulator and use it to ground out the mag to shut the tractor off? and do I need to add a switch somewhere to prevent battery drain from the alternater?
My plan is to run the tractor on the mag and have the lights and starter still on 12 volt.
