My First inclination is to agree with you, but when you think about it, it doesn't really make sense either. If you try lifting something, and it won't lift, you could be blowing oil past the cyl. piston but not leaking, and the forces are about the same, justa lot greater. Dad's 35+ yr old StanHoist loader had the piston seals go bad finally, but the rod seals were O-K. And it would leak down without the oily mess. The rod & piston seal kits cost more than He paid for the whole loader new! Now it doesn't leak down. Could this be one of those cases where "It Depends!"
