The 350 Utility replaced the 300 Utility late in 1956 and was made through 1958. There is not much difference between the gas tractors except the 350 had a two-tone paint job, and its Fast Hitch (assuming the tractor had it) may have draft control.

The 350U was also offered with a diesel engine, in a Wheatlands version, and a high-clearance version. I don't believe these were available in the 300U, but others can correct me on this.

The diesel engine was made by Continental, and I have seen (somewhere on this forum, I think) an indication that parts for that engine are hard to get. I believe it's the same diesel engine that was used in the Farmall 350D. There weren't nearly as many 350Us made as 300Us, and the diesel was some subset of that number, so you are probably getting into the area of an "uncommon" tractor, but I doubt that it's a rare tractor. 45 Hp (max.) is about right for the PTO, drawbar would be slightly less.

The 300U/350U tractors seem to be very popular with their owners (I like mine), with the standard complaint being that they're hard to steer without power steering. Really hasn't been too much functionality added to "small" tractors since these came out except ROPS. My opinion is that the Fast Hitch is an advantage, even when hooking up to three-point implements - much less pushing, shoving, and cursing involved once you learn how to do it. If you think the tractor would meet your needs, and the price is right, I'd say buy it.

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
