Hi Rick. I guess I have one of your "brothers" or "sisters" of your find. I have a 1947 McCormick Deering Model 04 ORCHARD TRACTOR, Serial # 0 BH 18464 W1K taken from the name plate in front of the battery. Ive had mine 3 0r 4 years. It has spent most of its lifetime in Orange Co, CA. I bought it for $250 when a neighbor who could not take it to a new home he bought. (Lucky break for me, Huh???) One of the first things I done was to start my "searching" on our favorite websites. I found a 294 page (Parts Manual for model McCD 0-4, OS-4, W-4) for $$44.95, and a 48 page (Service Manual for models W-4, 0-4, I-4, U-4, IU-4) $29.95 from Yesterdays Tractors, PO Box 160, Chimacum, WA 98325. (1-510-665-2318). With tax @ 4.20 for a total of $79.10 it has been money well spent. I look at it as .22 cents a day for a year. These manuals have helped me immensely with the wiring, carburetion, generator. When I first got the tractor I thought it was a 6 volt negative ground. Mine is POSITIVE ground & not knowing that, cost me $87.52 for Voltage Regulater & Generator testing. Good Fenders Left Side P/N 57664 DB & Right Side P/N 57665 DA, Hood Side Sheet R. H. P/N 57688 DXA & L.H. P/N 57687 DXA must be in demand. As MEDFARM sez, "they usually took a beating". I am misssing the "Steering wheel cowl sheet attachment" P/N 58027 DAX. This protected the driver from getting slapped in the face with tree branches. Wanna sell yours??????Let me know?? I have hydraulics & a 18" x 72" blade at the rear. I can drag rocks around my house here in the desert of Lake Havasu City AZ. Its a lot of fun. Whats my tractor worth???? "Priceless" at the present time. I like to sit in my patio & admire my tractor that everybody said I was stupid for buying that "Old Thing". They just dont know that at age 77, that motor reminds me of the sound of the little old John Deere that my Dad would let me drag the ball diamond every Sunday after Sunday School in 1937. These old tractors just should remind evryone they can hang on for a long time if they get proper care. Good luck with yours. You should be proud to have found a treasure. Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
