If it's been sitting. guarantee the gears and bearings have some rust on em.

Low budget worker, flush the old muck out of the rear.

Put in some of that cheap UTF from TSC and take a few slow passes around the yard to 'fling' it everywhere in there.

Drain it out and replace with the good very heavy gear oil.

If nothing is broken, then give it some time and it will get quieter(a little) as the gears clean themselves up.

funny about noise...I pull a big finish mower with my SH.

Shut down the mower and took my earmuffs off (mower is loud)

to drive in the shop for some routine maintenance on the tractor.

Low rpm so the exhaust roar was lower too.

Dang this tranny whines! No issues ever, and I normally don't even notice because of the other noise and earmuffs :)
