Rodney Sequeira said: (quoted from post at 16:28:04 03/17/14) I have a 1976 Farmall 1466 tractor that has begun to make a noise in the transmission area. When I pulled the dipstick (located above the transmission in the cab), I noticed it had a newly made mark as if something was rubbing against the dipstick.
Any idea as to what I may be looking at?
Thank you.
Is the noise most prominent in low range and reverse?
If so, the range counter shaft bearings are most likely failing.
If the noise is present in all ranges and increases pitch with ground speed then it's probably the pinion bearing.
