I have 2 I400D's. I had a hard time starting one of them until I discovered that the starting valves were not opening far enough. This is a fairly easy adjustment and makes a big difference during startup in cold weather. A couple of other things to watch out for are oil viscosity, and the TA. I have found that if the TA is in the low range even with the clutch depressed it still makes it hard to start.
