Don: While it's fairly easy to adjust the timing while the engine is running, it takes some understanding to guess where the factory setting should be. A mis-adjusted timing can degrade power under load or raise cylinder temperature. Play with it but try to put the timing back to the way the engineers wanted it for best overall results. harvey
