Just bought my first Farmall 1948 M , Beautiful condition and everything is there. here is the story....When I went to pick it up the guy and his grandson were working on the battery. They said the starter needed a bendex. We pull started it and it fired right up in only a couple feet and seemed to run great. I took it for a ride and it ran good with some fast vibration (the fenders vibrated ect) $1900 with brand new tires all the way around great paint no dents at all ! Same owner for over 30 years the guy I got it from had just bought it at a forcloser sale. When I got it home I saw the the positive terminal was hooked to the negative. I switched them around to make it positive ground , and hit the starter button and it fired right up( after I put a new battery in, the one it had was no good) The lights were not wired right , they work now but still not sure if right (still have to check). Here is the thing. it needed new plugs and wires. I got them and a cap , went to put them on and looking at the picture in the manual I saw the wires on my tractor were different. They counted number one cylinder in the back and number four cylinder in the front of the tractor (the opposite of the manual) I hooked the wires up according to the manual and it wouldn't start. I put them the way they had it from the rear of the tractor counting 1234 and it started right up. I haven't looked at the voltage regulator yet. With the tractor off when you turn on the lights on the ammeter shows a draw with the tractor running when you turn the lights on it doesn't show a charge. Do I need to start over and get top dead center with number one and re-time the tractor ?
