Steering box for 1953 A

I have a buddy that has a very nice original A with lot's of toy's for it. He has one problem with it. The steering has about 3 inchs of play in it. He has been trying to find the parts to rebuild it or replace the gear box for a long time with no luck.He did find one used one but it was just a bad as his and the guy wanted $375.00 for it. Any one have any ideas. I have been trying to find him one but have not had much luck.
