H Restorer, You can screw the cap screws that attach the grille onto the radiator into the regular holes in the radiator before painting then after you take them out to mount the grille just touch them up with a small brush. As for the hood protection, go to a canvas shop and buy some 1" wide single ply webbing. Use automotive trim adhesive to adhere it to the gas tank and the grille so the hood will rest on it instead of the metal. It may be harder to get the hood locked down into position but it won't vibrate and screw up your paint job.//FB
