No 1 plug is the front one .Turn the engine by hand normal rotation till the air blows out this spark plug hole . Continue turning till the first double mark lines up at the front timing mark . Located on the crank shaft pulley . This is top dead center . This is wher no 1 clyinder will fire . The rotor in the distributor cap should be in line with no 1 plug wire on the cap . If not take the distributor out and replace it so it's close . Now see what way the rotor turns normal operating rotation . Turn the distributor the same direction it normally turns . This is retarded . Now remove the center plug wire out of the cap . Advance the disributor , turn the opposite direction as normal . Till you hear a snap . Ignition on during this . Tighten distributor . Now check it by rotating the engine till you come up to the first mark normal rotation . You should get that spark again on that mark or close . Put it back together , fire it up . post how it came out
