If what you mean by "trash" is stuff already sloshing around loose inside the tank (bits of rust, dead leaves, beer bottle caps or whatever) this worked for me: Run the tank down so there's only an inch or so in the bottom. Now park the tractor on a side hill, or jack it up so the the left rear wheel is high and the front end is low. This will cause fuel and trash to accumulate in the right front corner of the fuel tank - directly beneath the fill opening. Next find short piece (foot or so) of 1/4" gas hose and your wife's bulb-type turkey baster (don't tell her what you're gonna do with it until AFTER you're finished...). Stick one end of the hose over the tip of the baster and drop the other end of the hose into the tank thru the filler. Now squeeze and release the baster bulb to suck up debris. A small flashlight can be helpful here - however tie a string to it first in case you drop it into the tank. Really heavy stuff (washers, stones) are best fished out with a flex "claw" tool.
