Inspect the mating part carefully. You should probably reinstall with the same splines in the same grooves or you may break more. You should be able to tell which grooves have less wear. Reinstalling in a new orientation may put more load on splines from the groves with less wear and break one or two additional splines off. You may have one bad groove which has broken two splines during different installations, i.e. someone removed the shaft, found a spline broken, and reinstalled two splines away, then broke another spline from the same bad groove.
