I have been reading the site over the past couple of years and joined earlier this year. Sure have learned a lot about how these things work from all the posts. My tractor is a 1951 Farmall C. My grandfather has had it at least since the 60s. I grew up driving on it and now my children are getting that experience as well.
This past year I was able to get my grandfather to teach me how to farm. We used a 6 foot plow to break the ground and then we used the side mounted planters to plant corn and peas. The planter he had for the Farmall came with the tractor when he bought it; I’m thinking it might have come with the tractor when it was originally bought. My grandfather had not used the planters since the 70s. Typically, he used the tractor to break the ground and then plant the seeds other ways (small garden).
Everything mechanically setup ok on the planter, but I would like to get/learn more about the planter and get a user manual off the internet to learn the setup details.
The planter has two hoppers, one for seeds and one for fertilizer. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the fertilizer equipment any more. The seed hopper has two compartments one labeled corn and one labeled peas.
I have attached pictures of the planter and then just some other ones for fun.
My biggest request: Would any of you be able to help identify my planter and point me toward a manual?
My 2nd Question (more for future reference): The 4th picture a picture of the drive internals that is attached to the brake drum drive. This is ultimately what drives the planter. I only have one of these parts and I have not been able to find any others. I am having a machinist make a duplicate so I can use both planters. Any ideas on where to get replacements? I have called multiple internet and the local IH Case places with no success.
