I could buy a filter for less in the U.S. and then spend money shipping them here and be no better off, so I just have to take the prices as they are here. Same goes for buying tractors. Try to buy a Farmall M for anything under $3000 here and it will be a toy model, not the real thing.

Baldwin filters are outrageously expensive here. It would almost be cheaper to use no filter and just change the oil every second day. Not sure about Fleetguard as it is hard to find a dealer who wants to sell less than 500 filters at a hit. One thing I like about the CaseIH filters is that they fit easily, unlike Ryco. I just hope they filter well.

I guess we're spoiled here in the US. I bet there is 20+ aftermarket options for this filter available here yet today. I am not saying they're all good filters in my opinion, but the options are there if someone is so inclined.

If the CIH ones available to you in Australia are the same ones available here, they're a quality filter. If you're comfortable with the price, buy it. It's around 1/4th the price of what you said it once was. I wouldn't pay $40 (USD) for one of these filters ever, but I wouldn't immediately run away from the roughly $10 price that CIH dealers sell them for, either.

Something that doesn't fit or function properly or to your satisfaction isn't worth buying at any price.

Today's Featured Article - Picking Corn - by Rick Nikolich. It was the day before Christmas shutdown at work and I asked our lead engineering expert Scott Andrzejewski what he was going to do over the holidays. He said that he had some corn that he still needed to pick with an antique one-row New Idea corn picker. Scott has a nice farm about an hour north of Lansing in St. Johns, MI. He wanted to get the rest of his corn in by the next day (Christmas Eve). We had about an inch of new snow on the ground and single digit temperatures. So in the bac ... [Read Article]
