Pull the plug out of #1 cylinder and bring it to top dead Center. This is when both the intake and exhaust valves are closed and the piston is at the top of the cylinder(compression stroke) and when the spark plug would fire, and also use your timing marks to be sure it is at TDC. Then check to see where the rotor is pointing. Whichever terminal the rotor is pointing at (or would be if the distributor cap were on) is where the spark plug wire for the #1 cylinder(front of tractor) should go. Moving clockwise around the distributor cap then place the cylinder number 3 spark plug wire, then number 4, then number 2. Your wires are on now on and in order. Hopefully I was clear enough.
