3 pt Hitch Linkage (806)

I am not sure of the proper terms to use here, so please bear with me.

The 3 point hitch assy on my 806 consists of two lower dead arms and two upper live arms. The live arms are connected to the dead arms by a linkage. It is this linkage that I want to talk about.

The linkage consists of two main members. One screws into the other (acme threads). The purpose of the treads is so that the elevation of one arm can be adjusted relative to the other arm, thus leveling the implement. Anyway, I removed these linkages from my tractor because the threads were frozen solid from years of neglect. I intend to break the threads loose, sand blast and paint these links, then reinstall them. Currently the links are soaking in liquid wrench to make it easier for me to break the threads loose.

My question has to do with how to prevent these threads from freezing up in the future. I see that there are two holes in the casting in the area of the threads. One is about 3/16" dia and the other is about 1/2" dia. I thought that the small hole might be for a grease zerk, but the hole is not threaded. Maybe it is for giving the threads some oil. I don't know what the larger hole is for. Anyway it seems like a big mess would be created in a short time if I use oil or grease on these threads. I don't really want to see them messed up after going to all the work of cleaning them up :).

Can anyone tell me what the recommended maintenance procedure is for these threads to keep them working freely?
