For the time being, my Farmall H has heavy duty steel wheels on the rear and 5.50-16 rubber tyres on the front axle. Pictures attached. The front rims are original. They have been re-rolled, sandblasted and painted. When I get the bearing sets for the cast iron front wheels, the front hubs will go to the sand blaster and powder coater for similar attention.
It is hard to tell from these pictures, but the bearing caps are in fact cast iron, not pressed steel.
Fitting the tyres without damaging the paint was easier than I had anticipated. I laid each rim on its side on heavy cloth and coated the tyre bead liberally with rubber grease. Then it was simply a matter of pushing the tyre onto the rim, fitting the tube and… getting my Dad to help force the second bead over the rim by standing on the tyre. The whole operation took about three minutes for each tyre.
