Red and All- Thank you for these posts. You're getting ahead of me in my 450 renovation quagmire... My 450 has the outer cap broken away at about a 45 degree angle slicing thru the grease fitting hole. The cap is intact and functional. It's just that the grease fitting and hole have obviously been damaged for a long, long, time. It was not noticable 'till I pulled off the home made tools & junk boxes gadget built over it. Please, expand on the telling about pulling that bearing and repairing that cap. I can drill, re-thread, and install the grease fitting, no sweat. My gut hunch is to simply replace the bearing and install a new grease fitting. What else? Please, 'yall keep talking and throwing out ideas, 'cuz you really got my attention on this one.
